O.O Pretty. O.O
*Must haves Tamaki Senpai promoting.*
And then there’s me:
(I’m going to show this to my mom, who doesn’t think people can be asexual)
Watch the entire “Let It Go” scene from Frozen featuring Idina Menzel performing as Elsa.
If you don’t wanna go see Frozen, this is the best 3:39 of the movie (except the short that plays beforehand). What a jam.
goosebumps every time!
Oh god Sarah you are so right
This character is basically Elphaba and Let it Go = No Good Deed
Biggest difference? Idina’s voice does not match this character or it’s expressions.
A voice so strong was not meant for a character so cotton candy soft. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY DIDN’T MAKE HER EMOTIONAL RANGE LARGE ENOUGH TO MATCH THE INTENSITY OF THE MUSIC??? The song is good, yeah. But the energy in the scene from this character design makes me cringe. It’s fucking Rapunzel trying to sing a song from Wicked fucking fuck what.
This was really lazy, Disney.
Elsa is an Elphaba copy
i think the big problem with the emotional range is the fact that they literally went out of their way to not make her face contort with the emotional waves of the song, because they wanted to make her stay “pretty”. if you watch Idina Menzel sing, well, pretty much anything, but especially her songs from Wicked, she is EMOTING. she is earnestly performing ev-ry sing-le syll-a-ble. she’s not “attractive” when she does it, but that doesn’t matter, because you’re not looking at her for her face, you’re looking for the feeling.
if you watch the video, the song kills, but the disconnect comes from the fact that elsa isn’t emoting. and this goes right along with all the problems of the production. it’s quite obvious the animators don’t care enough, because you have this intense song being sung by this powerhouse of a performer, and they aren’t trying to make the match; it’s all halfhearted.
and elsa, if you ask me, is a poor-man’s elphaba, because she’s not emoting. when i listen to wicked, i respond, because i hear the emotions and i remember seeing how it was performed; i cried during defying gravity because of the performance. when i watch elsa, i can see menzel in my mind’s eye performing it in the recording booth, and the difference between the two is jarring.
toni is always better at saying what I want to say so reblogging again
and you know what? It’s sad when the most emotional part of the song happens when you can’t see the character’s face:
THAT STOMP WAS THE MOST EXCITING PART OF THE WHOLE SCENE WHEN THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN:
SHE IS LIFTING A GODDAMN SHOW PALACE
THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FUCKING COOL
LOOK AT HER. AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC. AND CRINGE AT THE UNCOMFORTABLE DISPLACEMENT OF IT ALL WITH ME
“when i watch elsa, i can see menzel in my mind’s eye performing it in the recording booth, and the difference between the two is jarring.”
Y E S
((also this was the only song scene in the movie that actually made me feel anything….and now that I see it out of context it’s really mediocre, but compared to everything else, it was amazing and I called it “phenomenal” in my liveblog @_@))
The last shot is particularly guilty. Her weird bedroom eyed sexy face seemed kinda outta place.
It’s weird, because it makes me feel almost frustrated for the animators themselves, because was the rigging purposely limited so there couldn’t be as much squash and stretch/pose pushing/etc without going “off model”? Or was it a purposeful direction from the get go? Or just in the animation stage? Hrm.
I’ve yet to watch the movie a third time to focus solely on animation (I know I’m a sad person and shitty animator for it), but now that I’m looking at screenshots and remembering the scene in general, it’s kinda irksome, seeing as during the other songs, Anna had more of a emoting face? Hrmmmmmmm.
wOW THANK YOU FOR DESCRIBING THIS SO WELL I WAS DEFINITELY FEELING KINDA WEIRD ABOUT THIS AND YOU NAILED IT
this is possibly the worst casting that has ever come out of a disney movie?? like i dont think there’s anything bad or lesser about a tiny blonde ice queen, but if your character looks like a glamorous soprano cast a glamorous soprano for her character song? if you cast IDINA MENZEL at least attempt to give the character animation the gravity and power that her voice deserves
the vocals are incredible and the animation is lovely but i am actually cringing just watching it, it honestly looks like a bad lip sync, this is actually so sad
What the hell are you people all talking about? First it’s smashing the animators for not giving her the emotional facial range of Idina Menzel. Then it was how it’s the producers fault and not the animators who had too many restraints on how they could portray her to finally bringing it down to….. Well if they wanted to cast an actress to play a tiny little ice queen they shouldn’t have picked Idina Menzel. That is the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard. I have watched this clip over and over again for the past three hours and frankly you people are all nuts. The Elsa is NOT Idina Menzel. So stop trying to cast doubt on her, the producers and the animators. You people are all taking what you’ve seen from Wicked and any other clip you’ve ever seen Idina Menzel in and judging this movie because of it. It doesn’t conform to what you know to be Idina Menzel. Elsa is as she was created to be a woman caught by duty who had her heart ripped out because of what, and who might I add, she was. This song is to show Elsa’s power in who she is, NOT, Idina Menzel’s. It is expressing Elsa’s emotions, NOT Idina Menzel’s. The song expresses joy at finally being able to be herself and not be the perfect little girl she had always had to be growing up. It is expressing the freedom she felt finally getting to be who SHE wanted to be for a change. And EXCUSE ME? “Bedroom eyes”? Doesn’t anyone see that she can now be confidant without having to worry about “Doing the right thing like good little girls should”? Do you think Idina Menzel thinks the way you do? That they should have cast someone else to do Elsa’s voice just because Elsa didn’t match who Idina Menzel is? If that were the case many talented actors and actresses wouldn’t get to do Voice overs or get part in movies or plays just because a character doesn’t fit with who they are. A bright, beautiful, vibrant actress there fore could never play the part of a meek, timid, mousy girl because she herself isn’t any of those things. It is not the job of a character to conform to the actor/actress, but the actor/actress’s job to conform and portray in their own way the character they are breathing life into. To say that this song the way it is ”honestly looks like a bad lip sync” you obviously have no idea as to what you’re talking about. This song is touching and beautiful and is completely the way it should be. It is portraying the character NOT the actress. I for one think that Idina Menzel did a terrific job with this song and conveying Elsa’s spirit in it. She would probably be sad if she could read the comments above because the animation was perfect and she would probably think that SHE the ACTRESS did not successfully portray the character all because you small minded people are too concerned about what Idina Menzel’s facial expressions should be like instead of how Elsa’s facial expressions should be like. Elsa and Idina’s facial expressions are literally like Ice and Fire. You can’t put fiery expressions on a woman who is supposed to represent snow and ice so of course they are going to portray Elsa as she is meant to be. Literally an Ice Queen. So….. you up there who had had faith in this animation before you saw all those posts casting doubt on it, you should have a lot more faith in your own instincts then what a bunch of other people are saying just because they are prejudiced by what they have seen of Idina Menzel’s earlier work. Stop seeing Elsa as Idina Menzel and start seeing Elsa as Elsa!
Thank you for listening to my rant but someone obviously had to say it. I’m writing a few novels that I am hoping to one day turn into animations and I for one hope that people like this never get to speak about any casting decisions as if it were the character that has to become the person playing them……. A good example!!!!!! If directors thought as you people and decided that the character had to fit the actor then Tom Hiddleston would either have NEVER played Loki in the first place OR Loki would have never become as popular as the way that Tom has portrayed him all this time. Frankly Tom Hiddleston is far to nice a person that one could ever see him as playing Loki by him just being himself. That is because an actor becomes the character. NOT the other way around.
Again sorry for the rant but seriously it need to be said and frankly this is a subject I am very passionate about. -_- However I do have a beef with whoever wrote those lyrics and put in "Wind and Sky" The tempo of the song feels as if those lyrics should have been "Wind and Snow" and also because that would have actually fit with the theme of not only the song but the movie better as well….. Again sorry but I just had to add that last part. I am a bit curious though as to how many other people thought this too. ^-^
